Yes, our Family Too

“let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This past month Tracy and I created a website for couples (GrowingCouples.com) and in it we compiled a battery of assessments we use with our clients. One of those, the Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ), is one of the most powerful tools we use since it unearths the maladaptive schemas we all have. Well, long story short we tested this assessment with our daughters to weed out any bugs or typos. Some of them just clicked through it aimlessly, but some really gave some thought to their answers.

When Tracy and I received the results it was pretty humbling. I know I’m messed up, but I have a story and a half from my childhood, so I’m not surprise of my schemas. But to see my own kids also developed maladaptive schemas, and WE are the parents, it was very humbling. We know we all have issues, but I guess deep down we thought if we as parents do ABC our kids will be perfect.

The Bible calls us to be LISTENERS today. There’s where the wisdom lays. Let us practice listening today
