“Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer, but whoever refuses to shake hands in pledge is safe.” Proverbs 11:15 NIV
Going out of our way to exonerate people from learning is something the book of Proverbs advice against. This isn’t to say to be charitable (Good Samaritan) is bad since obviously the recipient of this deed was destitute, and helpless. That’s different.
I’m talking about enabling able/grown adults into depending on us, instead of fostering interdependence. This is what the book of Proverbs advices against. People need reality. In fact the road to recovery is paved with reality. The moment we take reality away from people we create a fantasy land and trouble awaits.
Let us help the helpless (charity), and allow reality to makes all of us grow. Reality isn’t bad, it is real.
