“If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.” Psalms 91:9-10 NIV
This is one of those verses I’d like to take to heart, say every morning as a mantra, and believe no calamity will come my way. The reality is that calamities are a part of this world and most people suffered calamities in the Bible. I mean Jesus himself suffered injustices and ultimately died at a young age.
So what do I do with passages like these? Is this verse lying? Could we really be inmune to suffering? I don’t think it’s either of those two extremes. There seems to be something special that takes place when we make God our center. Suffering waves may come our way, but we still hope in the Lord and this hope makes us weather the storm.
This faith gives us focus and purpose even in the presence of adversity. Let us keep investing in the one tool that stirs and anchors us through the vicissitudes of life.
