“in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?” Psalms 56:11 NIV
This is king David speaking these words as his enemies are in hot pursuit of him. Make no mistake, he’s running and hiding, he’s doing what he needs to do, however he’s not giving his enemies his hope. His hope still rests in the Lord. He is not afraid of them.
This thing about fear is more pervasive than I first thought. I knew the Bible’s most repetitive command is FEAR NOT, and some say it’s written/referenced 365 times… 1 per every day of the year. However even mental health theories categorize fear as one of the most crippling of emotions. In fact in attachment theory the opposite of secure attachment is FEAR avoidant attachment. It’s on the other side of the spectrum!
Let us fear not, and trust in God today. Faith and science prescribe us the same prescription today: fear not.
